Education
Most children in Garner attend schools in the Wake County Public School System. The system is made up of more than 163 schools, some 17,000 teachers and staff, and thousands of volunteers working together to educate our students. Three Garner-area schools – Smith Elementary, East Garner Middle and Garner Magnet High – are accredited by the International Baccalaureate Program, an academically rigorous Switzerland-based curriculum focused on preparing young people to become productive citizens in a global economy. In addition, three Garner public schools – East Garner Elementary, Timber Drive Elementary and North Garner Middle – offer multi-track, year-round calendars.
Within the immediate area are 10 colleges and universities with a combined enrollment of nearly 75,000 students. Most of these institutions offer both day and evening classes that are open to full- and part-time students. These institutions include large research universities, private colleges and seminaries. In addition, two area community colleges have a combined enrollment of almost 20,000.
